Core Course | Semester 3 – BA Arabic Language & Literature (SGOU) Appreciation of Modern Arabic Poetry is a core course designed to introduce learners to the major poetic movements of the modern Arab world—Neo-classicism, Romanticism, Realism, Modernism, and Postmodernism. Students explore selected poems from prominent Arab poets, understand the evolution of Arabic poetic styles, and analyze the themes, imagery, rhythm, and ideas embedded in modern poetic texts.This course helps learners appreciate the richness of Arabic literary creativity and understand how poetry responds to cultural, political, social, and emotional transformations of the modern era. Through guided readings and analytical practice, the course builds strong literary appreciation skills and introduces learners to key concepts such as modernism (الحداثة), contemporary poetry (الشعر المعاصر), romantic sensibilities, and realistic expression.
